Our Science
Our core tenet follows the veterinarian’s creed, which is the same as a doctor’s creed: Do no harm. What does that mean? We carefully select functional ingredients that have multiple clinical studies that back their efficacy in our targeted function. But what truly sets us apart? This also means we intentionally exclude ingredients that may have evidence of doing harm. You can find specific research behind our formulations for each product below.

JoyFull Prebiotic Squeeze Treats for Dogs
- Immunomodulatory effects of inulin and its intestinal metabolites (Sheng, et. al, 2023) – Dietary fiber supplementation in the daily diet is highly recommended. Recently, several studies have found that dietary supplementation of inulin can improve metabolic function and regulate intestinal immunity.
- Low-level fructan supplementation of dogs enhances nutrient digestion and modifies stool metabolite concentrations, but does not alter fecal microbiota populations (Hernot, et. al, 2009) – the full beneficial effects of fructans probably will not be experienced unless dietary concentrations are above 0.4% of dry food (our treat is formulated to be 1% inulin to see positive benefits)
- Effects of inulin or yeast cell-wall extract on nutrient digestibility, fecal fermentative end-product concentrations, and blood metabolite concentrations in adult dogs fed raw meat-based diets (Beloshapka, et. al, 2011) – a significant increase in fecal short-chain fatty acid concentrations was evident when dogs were fed beef-based diets with inulin and yeast.
- Responses of feeding prebiotics on nutrient digestibility, faecal microbiota composition and short-chain fatty acid concentrations in dogs: a meta-analysis (Patra, 2011) – Prebiotics at doses up to 1.4% food intake might increase the beneficial bacterial populations.
